4Networking Andover welcomes top Twitter tips for Newbies

Another day and another warm welcome – this time at 4Networking Andover, the next stop on Morgan PR’s Twitter Tour of 4Networking, bringing the Top 10 Tips for Twitter Newbies to the eager members.
Following the advice of Google Maps the cross country journey to 4Networking Andover was an early morning picturesque breeze and I arrived in plenty of time – but for the fact that this fortnightly networking opportunity clashes with the Newbury Business Group I would love to come along to 4Networking Andover.
It was good to see the familiar and friendly faces of area leader Coral Iles from Business Wide Services and the group leader Steve Jones of ergonomic furniture specialists Kinnarps, although actually everyone was as friendly as those familiar with 4Networking would expect!
The meeting was actually rather intimate with a few confirmed bookings not turning up, we were all sat around the one table and found ourselves with the luxury of time that was necessarily missing at 4Networking in Bath yesterday when over 30 people attended.
However, quality over quantity is a mantra I use when advising people about everything from Twitter to blogging – and the same can be said about smaller meetings. I got to speak to everyone and there was ample time for more questions after my talk on Twitter.
These cover the time it takes through to how to post messages on other services too – there are plenty of tools that allow such automation, but you need to be careful that shorthand unique to say, Twitter, does not appear on LinkedIn, where they will either be confused by a ‘Pls RT’ (please retweet, or republish my message) or will realise you are using automated services.
I was also grateful to Steve Jones for throwing me a lovely question. The 4Sight Slot at 4Networking Andover, like any 4Networking meeting, should be an insight – not a sales pitch. I work hard not to sell – so when Steve asked if it was possible for people to pay Morgan PR to help them with Twitter... it was the opportunity to mention our Twitter Workshop – and it promptly led to a booking!
Unwittingly there was an environmentally friendly theme to all of my one-to-one meetings at 4Networking Andover and while some were obvious, others were more subtle.
Carol Capper was my first one-to-one and is a marketing consultant with Capper Marketing who specialises in the public sector, one of those often hard to reach sectors of the market. Chatting to her it was apparent she is brimming with expertise and we plan to put some of our clients in touch with Carol to see if she can enhance their success with public sector tenders. On the green side, her family home is nearing completion and must be the most environmentally friendly in Andover!
Meanwhile in my second slot, Jez Scott from Paperfrog is a decidedly green printer who has ambitions to become a leading expert on environmentally friendly printing and just spending this short time chatting to him it became clear he knows his stuff. When some wants to be recognised as authority it is important that they use social media to spread the word about their expertise – and Jez was keen to exploit the channels out there – and not least will be joining Morgan PR for our Twitter Workshop later this month – that booking mentioned earlier!
Finally I met with Ed Poulton from Mango IT, web and desktop conferencing specialists who are helping businesses to cut costs, raise productivity and of course help the environment by reducing the inevitable journeys required when you bring teams together.
When a company is working on such exciting projects it is easy to explain how Organic PR works. I was able to show Ed how by simply reflecting what they are achieving through different channels, including social media tools like Twitter, they could raise the profile of Mango IT.
Significantly while the turnout at this meeting was low, I spent 10 minutes with a trio of professionals, all of which I can imagine how they will benefit Morgan PR and our clients – that’s the power of 4Networking!
