How to choose a photographer for your public relations

April 21, 2009

Photographs can say a thousand words – if you pick the right photographer!

As a journalist I quickly learned the difference an amazing photograph can make to a story. Now in Public Relations we ensure that great photographs are taken, knowing that they can impress news editors and see your press release capturing more space. Beyond that, great photographs should be part of your marketing campaigns and should of course be used on your website.

However, choosing a photographer can be tricky! There are so many to choose from and not all are created equal. Morgan PR takes its own photos, but also regularly employs numerous professional photographers and have just had an extensive portfolio taken by Neale James of Breathe Pictures. To help you choose we have prepared ‘Focus on Photographers – Five ways to put you in the picture’

Do you Squidoo?

Squidoo was set up way back in 2005 by our favourite marketing guru Seth Godin and essentially it is made up of user generated ‘lenses’. These are easily created single web pages that are rated by other users and benefit from the popularity that such user ratings give; they are also easily found by the search engines like Google.

There are different categories of lenses, including business and many make significant sums of money through affiliate marketing. We are turning some of the downloads you find here on the newsletter into lenses. You can see The Seven Deadly PR Sins and The Joy of Six on Squidoo and will notice that while the words are much the same; the format has changed and most importantly will be reaching a new audience. Through very simple steps our e-footprint just got bigger.

To Tweet or not to Tweet?

The micro-blogging phenomenon that is Twitter grows in popularity daily and certainly plenty of you downloaded ‘The Beginners Guide to Twitter’ last month, courtesy of our good friend, The Internet Psychologist, Graham Jones.

Quite a few of you questioned whether it truly was a useful business tool – our answer is ‘absolutely’. There are new readers of ‘Creating Reputations’ who have signed up thanks to Twitter. We have seen those who follow our ‘Tweets’ in turn promote our downloads, which have in turn been viewed by huge numbers of people – and crucially, we are now working with some of those Twitterers! Don’t get us wrong, it should be part of a coherent marketing strategy, for without a doubt it can soak up hours of time left unchecked, just like Facebook or even Linked In.

Still Places left for ‘The Non Exec Set’

There has been plenty of interest in the exclusive dining group for business owners, however, there are still places left for the forthcoming event on Wednesday 20th May at Donnington Valley Hotel in Newbury.

For more than a year ‘The Non Exec Set’ has seen entrepreneurs benefit from the confidential nature of dining with likeminded business owners, where dilemmas could be tackled – just as a board of non executive directors might, but all for the price of dinner! Learn more and register here.
