Talking about Social Media in Berkshire at the Reading Expo

Hundreds of business professionals attended the Keeping Business Local Reading Expo at the Madejski Stadium in Berkshire and a good few of them were keen to learn more about social media.
Originally a gig for The Social Media Guys in the event and at the event it as The Social Media Guy singular and Nigel Morgan delivered a talk on The Future of Social Media as one of the seminars at the Reading Expo.
Without giving too much away as this talk will be delivered at a number of forthcoming events, but essentially the message to the audience at the Madejski Stadium revolved around what you need to do with your social media today, if you want it to work for you tomorrow.
Engagement was the key message and one Morgan PR has been preaching as the leading social media consultancy in Berkshire for a long time now. It was also explained how ‘Organic PR’, which makes the most of what your business already does, can deliver ample content for a blog and in turn social media.
The event was good fun and there were plenty of questions from the floor and also from Twitter where people were following the event via the #ReadingExpo hashtag – which allowed those both attending and not at the event to engage with the speakers and the audience throughout the day.
While the free download of the presentation is limited to those who registered and attended, I am happy to share the promised the Daily Social Media Checklist which offers some great advice on how to make the most of your time – and social media!
The take up of social media in the room was excellent and of course the business network LinkedIn was used by almost everyone in the room and the audience of this blog is likely to mirror that so here are some helpful earlier blog posts – which are also good examples of those posts that keep on giving! Check out: ‘LinkedIn: beware the LIONS, the may savage your reputation’, there is also ‘Don’t be lazy, use the right language on social media’, tis on how to deal with strangers can be found ‘Beware Stranger Danger on LinkedIn’ and some LinkedIn etiquette tips are in this blog: ‘This time its personal – minding your manners on LinkedIn’
I also mentioned HootSuite? This is a web application that is very easy to use and is great for managing and scheduling your social media. It is free and allows a small number of accounts, although if you pay the nominal sum each month you can bulk schedule and truly leverage your time. Here is an affiliate link to HootSuite if you need it! It is also available for all smart phones which is useful!
Social Oomph is another program we use as it automates following back people on Twitter and allows you to tailor a direct message to new followers. Remember, never spam people with links in those direct messages and always seek to engage with relevant new followers further. Here is an affiliate link for Social Oomph, which earns me a few cents if you are so minded!
There was interest in further training, and as I explained to the audience, do contact me if you would like details of training courses for Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook or wider social media training, and of course I personally offer social media mentoring if you would like on-going one-to-one support. We can also create strategies and help with fulfilment too and we are regularly writing blog posts for clients to share through their own social media activities.
To help me help you, if you are on Facebook I will be delighted if you ‘Like’ Morgan PR on Facebook – this will mean you get updates, tips, offers and news directly to your Facebook wall. Write something and let me know if you have a page I should be liking too!
Twitter-wise the main account I use in @Nigel_Morgan and you will find lots of helpful tips from @DailyPRTips and @DailyTwitTips too. Be sure to say something like: Hello @Nigel_Morgan (your words here!) and if it is under 120 characters I can retweet it to approaching 9,000 followers! How’s that for exposure? Already done it for some who tweeted me since the expo.
