Video testimonial given in person at 4Networking Cirencester

With its stunning lakeside venue, 4Networking in Cirencester is a delightful location for a spot of early morning networking, which is where Morgan PR found itself back again this morning – and we were warmly greeted by now familiar faces.

It was also great to see Julian Wellings from Expertise on Tap, who supplies the technical knowhow and can do for our monthly newsletter ‘Creating Reputations’ and has also produced many of our videos through his sister company Julian Wellings Films... and he had a surprise in store!

During the 40 second presentations that each networker makes, he played a DVD of my video testimonial for his newsletter services, providing a powerful illustration of the sterling work he does both as a videographer and email newsletter provider – and it certainly showed myself and Morgan PR in a great light too. Actually, you can check it out for yourself here:

The 4Sight speaker at the event was Charlotte Greenman from Accredited Marketing, which offers telemarketing services. She spoke about the combined effectiveness of direct mail or email when supported by follow up telephone calls and explained the best approach.

At Morgan PR we have long practiced permission marketing – that is we only contact people who have expressed an interest in hearing from us. This makes for toasty and warm calling in contrast to the cold calling that comes from buying lists or – that networking sin – collecting business cards and calling them leads! Using a qualified email list also means your open and click through rate will be much higher.

During the questions both Julian Wellings and I sought to confirm the value of qualified lists and it is his guidance that has helped us achieve the powerful results from our newsletter that we enjoy. Incidentally, we first met Julian when he was delivering the 4Sight Slot on email newsletters at a 4Networking meeting in Newbury in September 2008!

It was good to see photographer Dorian Carrington again too, not least as it meant I had professional photographs to illustrate this blog again! She helped out with images last time I visited Coot's Cafe too

I have already mentioned the lovely lakeside location that makes this the prettiest 4Networking venue I have seen as I tour around different groups, and unsurprisingly it helps make this one of the more popular groups in the region.

During the trio of one-to-one meetings I had this morning, the 10 minute meeting with the charming Mike Gordon from Harmony House were spent strolling alongside the lake and were far more conducive to stimulating conversation than sitting in a hotel or a restaurant.

Harmony House offers specialist advice on legal, financial and lifestyle issues to couples facing relationship breakdown, and with a light-hearted approach to this tricky subject it will be worth catching Mike on the 4Networking Circuit in the coming few months when he will be presenting Men are from Marlow... Women are from Wokingham. They even put on a pantomime over Christmas and take that on a 4N tour too!

I also took the opportunity to catch up with Julian and had a had the chance to meet with veteran 4Networker Jeremy Townsend of Picture of Health, who passionately promotes good health and offers a range of products for sale that can help.

We will be launching our 4Sight Twitter Tour soon and Cirencester will certainly be somewhere we will be presenting – not far from the real life twittering of nature!

Hey thanks for the mention Nigel!

This hopefully demonstrates the true power of customer testimonials especially when delivered on video. Not all participants are as proficient as you in talking to camera (I believe one of your nicknames is "One take Taffy")so I coach them to tell a little story by asking questions:

Questions to address for a video testimonial:

  1. What was their business challenge?
  2. How did XYZ Ltd help?
  3. What were they key features of how XYZ Ltd went about it?
  4. What were the benefits for your business?

Well said Julian!

I know from my television work that people can often dry up in front of the camera regardless of how friendly the interviewer is, so knowing what they should address would be a great help, so top tips.

Also good to see BizView getting some love too! Incidentally, Dave Harries from BizPro and myself will be co-presenting the seminar at the August meeting of NRG Networks: The Power of the Broadcast Interview – How to give one, how to survive one

Great advice to be had whether you are giving a testimonial or and interview!
